Causes
Many causes: trauma, general infections (in cats: FeLV, FIV, FIP, toxoplasmosis), immune-mediated diseases, tumours. Sometimes the cause is not identified.
Diagnosis
A full ophthalmic examination plus a search for the underlying disease (blood tests, serology).
Treatment
Anti-inflammatory eye treatment plus treatment of the underlying cause. Early detection is key to preserving vision.
Prevention
Difficult to prevent. Health checks and vaccination reduce the infectious causes.
