Causes

Diagnosis

Treatment

There is no cure. It is managed the same as chronic kidney disease: renal diet, hydration, supportive medication. With good management, the cat can live for years with a good quality of life.

Prevention

Genetic testing before breeding to avoid perpetuating the disease. Screening ultrasound in predisposed breeds.

See your vet for a screening ultrasound if you have a Persian or a related breed. If it is drinking and urinating a lot, request kidney blood tests.
