Causes
Hairs that become embedded in the skin, allergies, foreign bodies, infection, moisture, paw conformation. It is often multifactorial.
Diagnosis
Examination of the paw, cytology and a search for the underlying cause (allergy, Demodex, foreign body).
Treatment
Treating the inflammation and infection, removing foreign bodies. KEY: identify and treat the underlying cause or it will recur. Chronic cases may require surgery.
Prevention
Dry the paws well, treat allergies, check the paws after walks in the countryside.
