Causes

Trauma: road accidents, fights, bites. Brachycephalic breeds (with prominent eyes) are much more prone, sometimes from a mild knock.

Diagnosis

Immediate visual diagnosis.

Treatment

EMERGENCY: keep the eye moist (saline, a soaked gauze) and go to the vet immediately. The vet will try to reposition the eye; depending on the damage, it sometimes has to be removed.

Prevention

In breeds with prominent eyes, avoid risky situations and handle them carefully.
