Causes
Feline enteric coronavirus, very common and spread through faeces. Frequent in cats that live in groups.
Diagnosis
Detection by PCR on faeces. Its main importance is as a potential precursor of FIP.
Treatment
It usually needs no treatment beyond supportive care if there is diarrhoea. The key is to reduce stress and overcrowding, which encourage mutation into FIP.
Prevention
Litter tray hygiene, avoiding overcrowding of cats, and reducing stress.
