Causes
Bacterial, viral or fungal infection; aspiration of fluid or food (aspiration pneumonia); complication of another respiratory disease.
Diagnosis
Chest X-ray, blood tests, sometimes culture. Auscultation helps guide the diagnosis.
Treatment
Antibiotics (if bacterial), fluid therapy, oxygen in severe cases, respiratory physiotherapy. Moderate to severe cases require hospitalisation.
Prevention
Treat mild respiratory infections properly so they do not become complicated, vaccination, and prevent puppies/seniors from getting cold.
