Causes
A genetic degenerative disease. Predisposed breeds: German Shepherd, Boxer, Corgi, Husky and others. A genetic test is available.
Diagnosis
It is a diagnosis of exclusion: the vet rules out disc herniation and other causes (MRI). The genetic test supports the diagnosis.
Treatment
There is no curative treatment. Physiotherapy and controlled exercise slow the loss of function. Canine wheelchairs help maintain quality of life and mobility.
Prevention
Genetic testing before breeding in predisposed breeds.
