Causes
The fungus Macrorhabdus ornithogaster, which affects the bird's stomach. It spreads between birds. Stress and lowered defences make it more likely to cause symptoms.
Diagnosis
Analysis of droppings or digestive samples by an avian vet.
Treatment
Specific antifungal medication under veterinary supervision. Nutritional support. Environmental hygiene.
Prevention
Quarantine of new birds, cage hygiene, and avoiding overcrowding and stress.
