Infecciosas

Bacterial infections

Bacterial infections that can affect various body systems in the dog. This groups together common bacterial conditions that require antibiotics.

Moderate🐕 Dogs Contagious

Symptoms to watch for

  • Fever
  • Lethargy and loss of appetite
  • Variable symptoms depending on the affected organ (respiratory, urinary, skin)
  • Swollen lymph nodes in some cases

Causes

Various bacteria that take advantage of a drop in immune defences, a wound or an underlying illness to cause infection.

Diagnosis

Blood tests, cultures and other tests depending on the suspected cause. Culture with an antibiogram guides treatment.

Treatment

Antibiotic according to the culture, for the prescribed length of time. It is important to complete the whole course even if the animal improves sooner.

Prevention

Vaccination, good hygiene, and prompt treatment of wounds and localised infections.

When should you see the vet?

See your vet if there is fever with lethargy. Do not use antibiotics without a prescription — antibiotic resistance is a serious problem.

WetAi guides you and takes you to the vet; it does not diagnose.
