Causes
The RHDV virus (and the RHDV2 variant), which is very hardy and highly contagious: direct contact, insects, objects, clothing and contaminated food. It also affects indoor rabbits.
Diagnosis
It is often diagnosed after death. In life, the clinical signs and the epidemiological situation provide clues.
Treatment
There is no effective treatment once the rabbit falls ill. Everything relies on PREVENTION through vaccination.
Prevention
Annual VACCINATION (covering RHDV and RHDV2) — it is essential even for indoor rabbits. Vaccinate against myxomatosis as well. Insect control.
